At the Duisburg Bruckhausen site, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG (tkSE) has been operating a water treatment system (WaWi) since 1999 to cool the existing continuous casting and rolling mill (GWA).

As part of the 20-30 Strategy, the existing CSP plant was converted in 2026 into Continuous Casting Line 4 (SGA4) with a downstream Hot Strip Mill 4 (WBW4). Furthermore, two new walking-beam furnaces (HBÖ) were erected and integrated into the process. The water treatment system was also required to supply cooling water to a further continuous casting plant (SGA3).
To achieve this, it was necessary to adapt the existing water treatment plant to the new water flow rates, temperatures and other requirements.
As part of this, the three cooling circuits (A, B, C) were expanded to accommodate the new water flow rates: Circuit A 10,500 m³/h, Circuit B 6,725 m³/h, Circuit C 10,200 m³/h.
The scope of supply included the basic and detailed design, the supply of mechanical and electrical equipment (various new pumping stations, two new concrete cooling towers, modification of the dosing system, etc.), the upgrading of the switchgear, the replacement of the entire control system, and the installation and commissioning of the plant.
