thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH operates the world’s largest cold rolling mill in Andernach. Tandem Line 1, one of the existing rolling mills, is a 5-stand cold rolling tandem line. As part of the modernization of the plant, the entire water treatment plant was replaced by PSE.
As the tinplate is used in the food industry, palm oil is added to the water to achieve high rolling speeds. The treatment plant was designed for the recycling and purification of this mixture.
All the steel tanks beneath the rolling mill were replaced. The system was converted from an open cooling circuit to a separate circuit, which is cooled back via heat exchangers and open cooling towers in the secondary circuit.
The settling tanks, heat exchangers and filters were installed in new buildings. Large cooling tower systems were erected to cool the water. To prevent the oil from flocculating when the temperature drops, a heating system for all plant components, including the tanks, also had to be installed. Steam was used as the heating medium.
The scope of supply included the design, the supply of all mechanical equipment, the pipework, instrumentation, the electrical equipment, the control system with automation, as well as the dismantling and installation of the entire plant.
